Udawalawe National Park in Sri Lanka is a 308.21 km² sanctuary established in 1972, famous for its large elephant population, diverse birdlife, and open, grassland habitat that allows for easy wildlife viewing. Originally created to house elephants displaced by the Udawalawe Reservoir, it now serves as a protected area and a popular tourist destination. Udawalawe National Park is famous for its elephant population, but it hosts a variety of other wildlife as well. Some notable species you’re likely to encounter:
